Workshops

As a workshop facilitator, my ethos for anything I do is to operate with warmth, generosity and joy.
Having been a facilitator for 7+ years, my approach is to ensure that the participants' experiences are of the utmost priority which informs my style to be broadly casual. My sessions are grounded by culturally safety, being trauma informed and neurodiverse friendly (as a neurodiverse person myself). The spaces I foster are that of encouragement and exploration with there rarely being a ‘wrong’ answer or response.

Examples of previous clients:
Wheelers Centre, Emerging Writers Festival, Blak & Bright Festival, RMIT, Linden Art Gallery, Koorie Heritage Trust, City of Melbourne, narrm ngarrgu Library, Kathleen Syme Library, 100 Story Building, Drummond Street, Queer Youth, University of Melbourne, Merri-Bek Council, Darebin Council, Bridge-It + more

Please feel free to have a look at some of the classic workshops I offer and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Drawing Botanicals

Overview:

Using bunches of native botanicals, participants will be drawing from what they can see in front of them. Together, we’ll cover various elements (line, depth & texture) and methods (stippling, hatching & cross hatching) to use in our drawings and build the artistic toolkits of the attendees. Using timed increments encourages freedom of expression and play which is the core of what we do; there is no ‘wrong’ way and there are no ‘bad’ attempts. This workshop is additionally fantastic for mindfulness which assists in regulating our nervous system while simultaneously boosting confidence.
Materials:
- Paper
- Mechanical pencils
- Whiteboard
- Bouquet/s of native floral arrangements & vases
Numbers:
>35 attendees (depending on space)
Length:
60 - 180 minutes
Age:
12+

Notes:
  • I have previously run this one for highschool students, uni students, young adults, adults and seniors - all with varying intersections of life experiences- with great success)
  • Usually 1-2 hours but is very flexible
  • Has a very meditative, mindful approach where 'skill' is not the key goal
  • Depending on the demographic and intention, I can either offer a more gentle program or can ramp it up and have clear methods that we go into with explanation (IE stippling, cross-hatching, bolder lines bringing portions of the drawing closer to the audience etc)

Creative Writing

Overview:

A writing workshop to inspire ideas using helpful exercises to bring on concepts. Participants will finish with the understanding of how to apply these same techniques to bring on inspiration in their own time. This is genre non-specific and open to everyone regardless at what stage they are at with their writing.
Materials:
 - Paper
- Pens
- Projector/screen

Numbers:
5 - 20

Length:
60 - 180 minutes

Age:
14+

Notes:
  • I bring along some visual prompts (photos, videos, physical items) and use these as the basis for exploration
  • Additionally I have a never ending source of inspiration that can take up a good portion of the session
  • Writing style would be generally creative and less genre specific
  • This could mean that the workshop could be broken into more digestible sizes and be split into multiple workshops, an extended workshop or condensed to focus on either of the above approaches
  • The smaller the group, the more time can be spent on working with each of the attendees individually to elevate their writing while demonstrating skills and ideas they will be able to use afterwards to create their own inspiration

Stamping the
Kulin Seasons

Overview:

Using a range of handmade stamps I’ve made with colourful ink pads & collage materials such as patterned paper, stickers, we’ll use different shapes and colours to bring your artwork to life. This is a workshop that pays homage to where we’re situated by celebrating the seven local seasons of the Kulin Nations.
Materials:
I have a broad range of things that I like to bring! This includes but isn’t limited to:
  • Various types of paper (colourful, patterned, textured, glittery, shiny)
  • Stickers
  • Glue (sticks, double sided tape, foam dots)
  • Patterned scissors
  • 40+ stamps (I’ve handcarved and created)
  • 20+ coloured ink pads
  • Colourful textas and pencils
  • Plus more!

Numbers:
 generally >20
Length:
60 - 90 minutes.

Age:
All ages!

Notes:
  • If looking at a youth centred workshop, my recommendation is 5-12 years
  • If planning all ages are in the same workshop it can get a bit tricky to keep everyone on track so I would usually recommend breaking this down into smaller age groups for individual sessions but can be flexible
  • Collaging using donated materials such as old books, national geographics, magazines is a great way for the Libraries to offset any out of date/unusable books for waste reduction, please feel free to reach out if this applies to you and we can incorporate this as part of your workshop
